What happened on December 1, 1944 at the Thiaroye military camp? West African riflemen, just returned from the front, came under fire from French machine guns. Why were they killed? How many were killed? Where were they buried? Nearly 80 years on, versions diverge and grey areas remain. Magui, Babacar and Aïcha, three young artists, grew up in Thiaroye haunted by the spectre of this troubled memory and their unanswered questions.
Together, and each on their own artistic path, they explore the memory of the massacre. They go out to meet others who, like them, are seeking to fill in the gaps, to finally understand what happened there, on the land of Thiaroye. This generation wonders why we should remain silent. It claims the right to question, to seize the traces, to break the silence. In Thiaroye, a continuous dialogue between history and memory is woven, punctuated by their artistic performances.
